Does the Finance Industry need Reform or Revolution?

There are always two ways to change an organization, internally and externally. These equate to reform and revolution. Which do you think we need?

The video at mashable.com and the article at www.salon.com suggest that we are powerless in our current system. They suggest that the system is skewed out of our favor. With the top 1% controlling close to 40% of the nation's wealth and the bottom 40% controlling close to 1% of the nation's wealth, what would you say? The article above states that, "Financial literacy classes sure sound good. But students who take the classes don’t seem to retain much of the knowledge."

My question is that if you don't stand up and do something, who will? Do those controlling the wealth have any incentive to make things better? Or will they do the minimum necessary to simply avoid revolution?  Were we made to work nine to five, day in and day out?

Those who believe they are empowered to make change, take the steps necessary to make change and end up making a change. Whatever the reason may be, describing why a person cannot make a difference, I can find someone with the same exact reason who has made a difference. There are thousands upon thousands of historical accounts to justify this type of thinking. In fact, the more convincing the reason is as to why someone might not be able to make a difference, the more powerful the result when that person attempts to make a difference.

A revolution is coming, there is no doubt about that. However, for those of you who wish to work on reform and actively change the system from within, there is hope. Financial literacy is the starting point, not the ending point. Beyond that people need to have mentors and accountability partners to really change their personal situations.
